My sister-in-law, Lorraine turned me on to quilting. She made us a gorgeous king-sized quilt for our guest bedroom. Check out her work here.
Move
As you can see, Sunny is an integral part of the quilting process!
I started my very first quilt using a basket weave design. It was supposedly simple to put together.
The majority of the seams didn't line up and I used a dark colored backing with light colored thread. Oops..every crooked stitch shows.
I had not mastered the art of lining up seams all that well.
But my quilting is busy enough to hide a lot of flaws if you don't dig too deep. It's held up well with numerous washings. As you can see, I used LOTS of thread...definitely won't fall apart!
Sunny is hoping I'll take a little longer to finish this one. I was so frustrated with the quality of my first quilt, I used same pattern with different fabric.
I used 5 fabrics this time instead of 3. Practice makes perfect?? I did a better job matching seams and the light backing fabric helped when I started quilting.
I made this one large enough to fit a twin bed and experimented with 100% cotton batting vs the polyester. I decided I much preferred the cotton.
I also used a different quilting pattern with clear top thread instead of white.
This quilting process is hard work!
Sunny knows what he likes...and he DOES enjoy this part of the process!
This quilt is based on a free pattern I got while stash shopping at Hancock Fabrics. I'm now getting pretty good at matching seams, but my quilting still needs work.
I decided to experiment with different combinations of diamonds and strips when I made this one.
Almost ready to start quilting
This quilt incorporated some southwestern type fabrics and resides in our living room during the winter months.
My niece graduated from high school this year. From grade school through high school she has pitched on various softball teams.
Her mother wanted to have a memory quilt made using her game shirts.
During this process I learned T-shirt fabric, even with stiffener is not easy to quilt.
Half way there.
I decided to make and quilt the individual squares, then piece it all together.
The back side...used multi-colors for interest.
Sunny picking his favorite team.
Finally..it's done! Stacy acting as my quality control inspector.
The end result is nice but I won't use this process again.
Rosie adds some of her thoughts.
Traci's Teams - Completed April 2007

This was one of my favorite projects. Buckeye Beauty, is the block I used to make this quilt.
And, ironically, it's the name of the person we gave this to for Christmas. I wish I had taken more pictures but I was working on this one and Softball Saga at the same time.
This project was therapy when I got frustrated with the Softball Saga.
I am experimenting with my own layout design here. Army Star, Is the block I am using. I started this one in October 2006 and finally completed it in April 2008.
It sat in my closet for months as we debated putting the house on the market for a move to Alabama.
I finally resumed work on it added the final border.
Here you see some of the quilting detail.
Completed April 2008.
